Mixed Media Collages – Available on Artsicle

As promised, I’ve just made my Curiosities Series available for purchase on Artsicle.com. There are 14 original collages still available for purchase in this series of 18 (11″X14″ matted and framed).

Here’s a description of the series:

This series began in the printshop by creating a library of images that suggest the idea of strangeness and wonder in our natural environment. Images were printed onto Japanese rice paper and cut up into collage materials used to build compositions that abstracted their narrative qualities. Layers of ink were then built up on top of the collages using the screen printing process as a more intuitive and painterly method of working. The end result is a series of small and large mixed-media works that aim to deconstruct representational images into formal elements of texture and color.  ( artwork: 8″ X 10″ / mat & frame: 11″ X 14″)

* Reproductions are available as archival pigment prints in signed additions of 100. Each are ready to frame with 11 X 14″ mats, acid-free foam backing and archival sleeves).

Here’s a shot of the entire set: (the cost per print goes down when purchased in multiples)

Japanese Plum Blossom

My favorite tree just outside my bedroom window upstate is about to bloom. It marks the start of spring and the time of year we bought our place two years ago. Sadly, it’s only in full bloom for about a week so I try not to miss it. It’s buds are starting to burst despite the snow.

Snowy Upstate Weekend

Excited to get upstate this past weekend for just one night to see everything start to bloom, instead we were greeted with 8 inches of snow! So much for early spring. Just as beautiful though. I took these photos in Kerhonkson, just south of the Ashokan reservoir.

2012 Winter Art Swap

Earlier this week I hosted our second Art Swap for Winter 2012. (hoping to have one of these each season) The night was so much fun and a great exchange of ideas, working methods, professional opportunities and beautiful creations. I feel so lucky to know such talented and passionate women here in Brooklyn – each creating impressive careers for themselves in art, design and artisan trades. The attendees for this gathering ranged from fine artists and illustrators to artisan chocolatiers and documentarians. I loved the mix! Everyone had something incredible to offer and I’m thrilled with what I got to keep (thanks Sam!).

Thanks to everyone who came out! including: Samantha Hahn (illustrator), Amy Finkel (documentary filmmaker), Vadis Turner (mixed-media fine artist), Angharad Bailey (prop stylist), Chrissy Fichtl (of Apotheke Soaps), Danielle Lawrence (of Raaka Chocolate), Jenny Wong (textile designer & esthetician extraordinaire), and my lovely roomate, CJ Freshour.

Stay tuned for the next Swap this spring – perhaps on the rooftop garden, BBQ/Margarita style!
